How do AI answers recommend your school to parents?
The Tasadr team · ·15 min read
In our measurements of school questions in October 2026, the most-cited source in each country was a school directory, a property portal or an official body, not a school's own site. What your school controls is stating its curriculum, accreditation, official rating, fees, transport and admission dates in plain text, and making its directory listings match its site.

What do parents ask an AI engine before choosing a school?
A question that names the kind of school, the place and one condition that settles the decision. People type it in search as "best school", then the curriculum or the language, then the city or the district. Here are examples as they are typed:
- «افضل مدرسة عالمية في الرياض» and «افضل مدرسة عالمية شرق الرياض» ("best international school in Riyadh", "... in east Riyadh")
- «افضل مدرسة بريطانية في الشارقة» ("best British school in Sharjah")
- «افضل مدرسة ثنائية اللغة بالكويت» and «افضل مدرسة خاصة بالجهراء» ("best bilingual school in Kuwait", "best private school in Jahra")
- «افضل مدرسه انترناشونال في المعادي» and «افضل مدرسة انترناشونال في الشيخ زايد» ("best international school in Maadi", "... in Sheikh Zayed")
What conditions hide behind the word "best"?
Among them: the curriculum (British, American, International Baccalaureate or national), the fees, the district and transport, the official rating, the language of instruction and where Arabic fits in it, and the registration dates. A school that writes the answer to each condition on a clear page gives the engine a sentence to quote. One that settles for photos and a mission statement leaves the answer to someone else.
This guide is part of optimising for AI answers for local businesses across the Arab world, because a school is a local business that parents reach from a particular district. You will find the same logic for two other sectors in how your clinic can lead AI answers in Saudi Arabia and how AI answers recommend a law or accounting firm.
Who do AI answers cite on school questions?
In our measurements between 11 and 13 October 2026, we asked Perplexity and Claude 95 questions about choosing schools, nurseries and institutes in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait and Egypt. In no country was the most-cited source a school's own website, and that source changed from one country to the next.
The most-cited source on school questions in each country, in Perplexity and Claude, 11 to 13 October 2026 Country Most cited On how many questions Saudi Arabia An online school directory 42 of 55 questions UAE School guides on two property portals, then an official education authority 15 and 13 of 17 questions for the portals, 11 for the authority Kuwait A government portal All eight questions Egypt Two directories of schools and nurseries 8 of 15 questions each What does this mean for your school?
That your competition for the answer is not only other schools. In the UAE, the "best schools" guides published by two property portals come first, and an official education authority was cited on 11 of the 17 questions. The authorities there, such as the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai, the Department of Education and Knowledge in Abu Dhabi and the Sharjah Private Education Authority, publish private schools' ratings, so your school's official rating can enter the answer itself.
In Kuwait a government portal was cited on all eight questions, and in Saudi Arabia and Egypt school directories came first. There, a school competes for the answer with its directory listing before it competes with its own site.
What are the limits of these figures?
These figures come from a few days on two engines; some questions were about nurseries and institutes rather than schools alone; and Kuwait had only eight questions. It is a picture of October 2026, not a fixed rule. We do not name the cited websites; we describe what kind of site each is.
Why do answers cite the education authority, and how do you use that?
Engines do not say why they choose their sources, but an education authority publishes what parents look for, from an official source: a rating with its year, fee information and the school calendar. This is what we found on the three UAE authorities' sites when we read them on 17 October 2026:
- Dubai: the school directory on the Knowledge and Human Development Authority's site shows, for each school, its overall rating with the school year, its curriculum and grades, its fees fact sheet and its academic calendar.
- Abu Dhabi: the Department of Education and Knowledge rates private schools through its Irtiqaa programme on five levels, and private schools display performance plaques that combine their Irtiqaa and National Identity Mark ratings.
- Sharjah: the private school directory on the Sharjah Private Education Authority's site shows a school's evaluation result where it has one, and lets parents search by annual fee range, curriculum and grade.
So what do you write about your rating?
Write it on your page exactly as the authority published it, with its school year, and link to the authority's page that shows it. Never claim a higher or older rating than the published one: the engine may read both pages, and so may the reader.
In Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Kuwait, name the body that licensed your school and the curriculum you teach, exactly as they appear in your official documents, and never attribute to an official body anything it has not published itself.
What should your school's page say for the engine to cite it?
Write the answer to every condition parents ask about on a page of your site, with the figure and the date. Here is a table of what they ask about and what answers it:
What parents ask about, and what your school's page should state in plain text What they ask about What your page states Curriculum The curriculum's name as it is, the grades that follow it, and the accrediting body if there is one Official rating The rating as the education authority published it, with its school year and a link to its page Fees Fees per grade, what they include (books, uniform, activities) and what they do not, and the date of the last update Transport The districts the buses reach, and the transport cost if it is separate from the fees Admissions Registration dates, admission ages, the documents required and the steps to apply Language The language of instruction, and where Arabic and Islamic studies sit in the timetable if they are part of the curriculum Location The district and city written on the page, not only on a map A fees page, not an attached file
Make the fees a table on a page, not only a PDF. A table inside an attached file can be harder for an engine to read accurately. If fees change every year, put the school year in the table's title, so the engine does not quote last year's figure as if it were today's.
Structured data and your Google Business Profile
Describe the school with structured data of the schema.org type School, a kind of educational organisation. Google says structured data is not required for its generative features and must match what a visitor reads on the page. The detail is in which structured data does your site need, and what can it not do?
Keep your school's Google Business Profile current: Google says a Business Profile can help your products and services appear in AI responses and in its other search results. The method is in how AI answers read your Google Business Profile and reviews.
Does your school need to be in school directories?
Yes, because school directories were the most-cited source on Saudi and Egyptian questions in our measurements. An answer that does not name your site may name your listing in a directory, and when your details there are incomplete or out of date, the engine may take them as they are.
So find your school in the directories you see linked in answers to questions about your city, ask to manage your listing where the directory allows it, and correct the curriculum, fees and district until they match your site word for word. The full method is in how do AI engines learn about you beyond your own site?
In the UAE, the "best schools" guides on property portals come first. Those pages are written by the portals themselves, so check that what they say about your school is correct, and write to them when you find a mistake, as you would to any publisher who writes about you.
When should you update your school's pages before registration season?
Weeks before parents start asking, because the back-to-school season begins weeks before the first school day. The 2026-2027 school year started in late August 2026 in Saudi Arabia and the UAE and in September in Egypt; each country's dates and sources are in what customers ask before the return to school.
On your admissions page, write when registration opens and closes each year, update the fees for the new school year, and let search engines know the page has changed. A page carrying last year's fees gives the engine an old figure that it states with confidence, which is one of the causes of what is called an AI hallucination.
Example: private schools in Jeddah
Illustrative example: ruwaq-schools.sa is a group of private schools in Jeddah. Parents in the city ask «إيش أفضل مدرسة أهلية في شمال جدة بمنهج أمريكي؟» ("what's the best private school in north Jeddah with an American curriculum?"). Its home page is photos and activities, its fees sit in a PDF attached two years ago, and the curriculum gets one line, with no grades.
The schools change four things. They write the curriculum and language of instruction on a page for each stage, publish the fees on a page dated by school year with what they include, list the transport districts and cost, and correct their details in the school directories they see linked in the answers. Then they ask the same question again a few weeks later.
We do not promise the engine will recommend them afterwards; that choice is the engine's. But their site now answers what parents ask, and their directory listings now match it.
How do you know if the engine recommends your school?
Ask the engines the questions parents in your district ask, in their words and dialect, and note who is recommended in each answer and who is cited, and whether the link goes to your site or to your listing in a directory, because those are two different results. The manual method is in how to check whether your site leads ChatGPT and Gemini answers.
Choose the questions as parents write them, not as your brochure does: «افضل مدرسة عالمية شرق الرياض» ("best international school in east Riyadh") is not a question about academic excellence. The method is in how to choose the questions you measure, and who leads instead of you, and why, is in how to find which competitor ChatGPT recommends instead of you.
At Tasadr (تصدَّر) you set each site's country and dialect, so your school's questions are asked in your country's dialect and name your city, and we record for each answer whether your site was cited, mentioned without a link or absent, and who was cited instead. You can start with a 7-day free trial on 10 questions in ChatGPT and Gemini, with no credit card.
Which mistakes keep your school out of the answer?
Six mistakes, each of which leaves the answer to a directory or another school:
- Fees only in an attached file, or "contact us" instead of a figure, so the engine takes the figure from a directory that may be out of date.
- A rating with no school year, or a rating older than the one the authority published.
- A curriculum with no name, such as "an international curriculum" instead of the curriculum's name and its grades.
- The district only on a map, with its name nowhere on the page.
- One page for everything, mixing kindergarten, primary and secondary, boys and girls, so the engine struggles to find the answer to one specific question.
- Different details in directories: another name, other fees or an old phone number, so the engine cannot tell which version to believe.
What can nobody promise you?
Nobody can guarantee that an engine will recommend your school. It chooses its sources afresh for every question, and it may put a directory or an official body ahead of your site whatever you write. What you control is making your page the clearest source about your school, and making your details everywhere match your site.
Our figures here come from 95 questions in four countries, on two engines, over a few days in October 2026, so do not read them as a rate for every city. The education authorities' details are taken from their sites as we read them on 17 October 2026; rating programmes and their names change, so check the authority's page before you publish.
